Foods That Cause Pimples, and Which Ones Are Recommended

It is important to recognize the influence of diet on the skin, as well as on the rest of the body’s processes. When we have a balanced diet that is beneficial for skin health, we will find better results.

Although science has found data that proves the influence of diet on dermatological changes, there are still no specific findings in relation to acne.

However, our experience in the area allows us to talk about certain foods that cause pimples according to each patient and we will share the following list with you.

List of foods that cause pimples.

Dairy products

There are studies that claim that whey protein favors the production of androgens that stimulates the synthesis of sebum in the pilosebaceous area and as a consequence motivates the appearance of pimples. Of course, we can say that the effect of this food can be evidenced in those patients with acne processes or specific situations that cause the appearance of multiple pimples. Although some facts about this food may still generate controversy, dermatologists recommend the reduction of dairy, especially in acne healing processes.

Chocolate

The relationship with chocolate and acne has more to do with added sugar and fats than cocoa itself. It may be recommended to consume this in high percentages of cocoa or avoid its consumption in order to prevent pimples from appearing.

Alcoholic beverages

Alcohol as such helps the body synthesize testosterone (a hormone present in both men and women) as well as decreases the capacity of the immune system to act. On the other hand, there is a particular relationship with the sweat emitted after consuming alcohol, as it secretes a mixture of nutrients that contribute to the proliferation of acne-causing bacteria.

Foods with a high glycemic index

These foods such as: rice, wheat, pasta, among many others provide the body with a drastic increase in sugar in the body, which invites the body to compensate with insulin which in turn stimulates the production of androgens which is a hormone produced by the sebum of the cebaceous glands. We can conclude that foods that turn into sugar and produce a spike in insulin are part of the appearance of pimples.

What are the foods that are recommended to be eaten?

Dermatologists propose a balanced, Mediterranean diet based on foods from all groups.

Proteins such as meat, eggs, vegetables, fish. Emphasis can be placed on the consumption of fish that provides omega 3 that is beneficial for skin regeneration.

Carbohydrates, those low in glycemic index such as cassava, plantain, carrot, etc.

Healthy fats: Avocado, olive oil, controlling the amount ingested.

Increasing your consumption of water as well as fruits also helps to balance hormones and improve the appearance of the skin along with its hydration.

How do you know if a food is causing you pimples?

The best way to identify if a food is causing pimples is by looking at and analyzing all the variables.

It can be a slow process, however it is possible to notice if a food is responsible for a patient’s acne breakout and thus avoid it. The step-by-step is as follows.

Make a list of foods eaten 1 day before the appearance of pimples.

Once the pimple outbreak is under control, try again with just one of the foods, with the most suspicious on the list. For example, if you had a latte and you think dairy may be causing the problem, start there.

Wait 24 to 48 hours to draw conclusions. If pimples do not appear, repeat the process until you find the unfavorable food for you.
